If you're weighing where to put down roots in Lee County, the neighborhood matters just as much as the house. Auburn and Opelika each have their own personality — from golf-course estates and quiet family cul-de-sacs to walkable historic downtowns and student rental hotspots near campus. We've sold homes in almost every one of these communities, and here's our honest, local take on where you might fit best.
🏠 Best Neighborhoods in Auburn, AL
Auburn stretches from golf-course estates on the north side to walkable, century-old streets downtown. Here are five that come up again and again with our buyers.
Moore's Mill
Widely considered Auburn's premier address. Established in the early 1990s around the Moore's Mill Golf Club, the neighborhood is full of custom-built homes on wooded, rolling lots, with a private pool and clubhouse for residents. If you want space, privacy, and a country-club feel without leaving city limits, this is usually the first place we show.
Asheton Lakes
One of Auburn's newer executive communities, built around a series of private lakes on the east side of town. Homes here tend to be larger, newer, and built with move-up buyers in mind — wide streets, sidewalks, and easy access to parks and walking trails.
Camden Ridge
One of Auburn's largest neighborhoods, tucked off North Donahue Drive. It's been a go-to for young families and first-time buyers for over 30 years thanks to a genuinely active HOA, a neighborhood pool, playgrounds, and a location that's close to schools and shopping without the price tag of the newer communities.
Downtown Auburn / Historic District
This is where our investor clients spend most of their time. Proximity to Auburn University makes downtown and the surrounding historic streets the strongest spot in the market for student rentals and game-day short-term stays, while the tree-lined blocks around Toomer's Corner still hold plenty of appeal for buyers who just want to walk to dinner.
East Lake
A well-established, top-tier residential pocket in southeast Auburn. It's a short drive to downtown, I-85, and Tiger Town, which makes it a favorite for buyers who want an easy commute in every direction, including over to Opelika.
AU Club at Yarborough Farms
Another strong option if you want golf-course living in Auburn, right alongside Moore's Mill.
White Oak
Not a golf-course neighborhood, but it holds some of Auburn's million-dollar homes and sits directly across the street from Saugahatchee Country Club.
Mimms Trail, Woodward Oaks, The Cotswolds, Grove Hill, Lake Wilmore & Asheton Park
If an active HOA and a real neighborhood pool are must-haves, these are the ones we show most. Grove Hill is also home to Auburn's brand-new City Complex, and Asheton Park (right alongside neighboring Asheton Lakes) tends to run toward larger, more luxury-leaning homes.
Willow Creek & Cary Woods
For buyers who want bigger, wooded lots and charming, established homes over a cookie-cutter feel, these two are the classic picks.
High Grove, Chapel Heights, Glenwood Farm, Adare Estates, Hanson Farms & Quail Chase
Auburn's newest wave of luxury development, with High Grove being the newest addition to the list. Expect brand-new construction, larger lots, and price points starting around $1 million and up.
Dawson's Corner
Auburn's go-to for upscale, low-maintenance retirement living for buyers 55 and up.
Mary Brooks Drive, Harper Flatts & Legends of Magnolia
Auburn's premier options for students and student-housing investors who want to be within walking distance of campus — the Mary Brooks Drive development, Harper Flatts condos, and Legends of Magnolia all fit the bill.
🏢 Best Neighborhoods in Opelika, AL
Opelika brings a different flavor — a genuinely historic downtown, resort-style golf communities, and some of the best value in Lee County. Four neighborhoods we point buyers toward most often:
Grand National
Built around the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Grand National is one of Opelika's most prestigious addresses. Expect custom architecture, mature landscaping, and scenic golf course and lake views throughout the community.
National Village
Just down the road from Grand National, this community leans into resort-style living — walking trails, fishing lakes, and pools set against Opelika's natural rolling terrain. A popular choice for buyers who want amenities without a big commute to Auburn.
Historic Downtown Opelika & Alta Vista
Tree-lined streets, front porches, and homes spanning nearly a century of architecture, all within walking distance of downtown Opelika's restaurants, shops, and Floral Park. This pocket consistently draws buyers who want an older, well-preserved home and are willing to shop within the official Historic District boundaries: north on 7th Avenue, east to 3rd Street, south to 3rd Avenue, and west to 11th Street.
Northbrook & Wyndemere Area
Opelika's best-kept secret for value. These established, front-porch neighborhoods near Tiger Town offer a real sense of community at a more approachable price point than you'll typically find on the Auburn side of the county line.
Stoneybrook
Opelika's golf-course community for Saugahatchee, with homes commonly reaching into the million-dollar range.
Firefly, Wyndham Gates, Laurel Lakes & Hidden Lakes
Quality custom-built homes with real HOAs and neighborhood pools — often from the same builders working in Auburn, but priced more affordably here in Opelika.
Arrowhead
Large estate lots with high-end luxury homes on the Opelika side of the county. See more at arrowheadopelika.com.
